- West suggested Swift’s fame is because of him on his new album
- During her acceptance speech, Swift delivered a not-so-subtle jab at West
(Feb. 16, 2016) – No doubt, there’s “Bad Blood” between Taylor Swift and Kanye West, and Swift took the chance to address it during Monday night’s Grammys.
Swift took home the coveted Album of the Year award for “1989.” This time, she didn’t have to worry about an interruption from West, who brashly took the stage during the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, swiping the microphone from Swift and telling the audience that Beyonce should’ve won the award instead.
Even years later, that’s not the end of their feud. In a song on his new album “The Life of Pablo,” West suggested he’s responsible for making Swift famous, a callback to that 2009 incident.
And Swift, while she didn’t mention West by name, clearly took a jab at him during her acceptance speech Monday night.
“I want to say to all of the young women out there, there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame,” she said.
“But if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, someday when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there and that will be the greatest feeling in the world. Thank you for this moment!”
