After a week of drama surrounding quarterback Justin Fields, the Bears added another chapter to the saga on Friday courtesy of critical comments from receiver Chase Claypool regarding the offense.

With Chicago winless entering Week 4, Claypool voiced his frustrations when asked by ESPN’s Courtney Cronin whether he’s been utilized in a way that allows him to show “the best of what you can do.” Claypool, initially, appeared hesitant to answer the question, only to then offer a brutally honest take about both his and the team’s rough start.

“Hmmm, no,” Claypool said as he shook his head and moved on to the next question.

Claypool, who was acquired from the Steelers last November, has struggled as part of a rebuilding offense since joining the team, a trend that has continued in 2023. Through three games, the 25-year-old has caught three of his 10 targets for 36 yards and touchdown.

Given the timing, Claypool’s remark will likely go down as another, unwanted log tossed in the growing dumpster fire the Fields-led unit has quickly came to be characterized as in the media following the rough start. The Bears (0–3), after getting outscored, 47 to 106, in three weeks, will look to sort through their dysfunction against the equally hapless Broncos (0–3) in Week 4.
