OWEN COUNTY, Ind. – A woman died after she disappeared under water while swimming with friends at Cataract Falls in Owen County Monday.

When Autumn McCreery, 32, did not resurface, a friend called 911 around 2:39 p.m. Conservation officers responded to the scene and recovered her around 3:43 p.m.

EMS performed CPR, but McCreery was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers say the area where the incident happened has multiple signs prohibiting swimming.

Conservation officers are conducting an investigation, but no foul play is suspected at this time. Based on witness statements from the victim’s friends, it appears alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning.
