PORTLAND, OR (April 14, 2015) — A woman beat her longtime online “boyfriend” over the head with a bat at their first face-to-face meeting, and she has now been charged with assault.

According to KCPQ, Samuel Campbell, 26, began a relationship with Haley Fox, 24, via the Internet in 2013. Earlier this month, Fox and Campbell decided that Campbell would move in with Fox.

Last Thursday, Campbell went to Fox’s home in Turner,Oregon, to meet her for the first time in person. When he arrived, Fox led him to a table outside that KCPQ reports had candles and wine glasses on it.

Canpbell sat down at the outdoor table and Fox poured him a glass of wine. She then asked Campbell to close his eyes so she coulf present him with a surprise. That’s when “things took what could have been a deadly turn,” the sheriff’s office said.

When Campbell’s eyes were closed, she took a metal baseball bat and bashed him in the back of his head three times.

The man suffered a fractured skull and required nine staples to his head. He has been released from the hospital.

Fox told investigators that she beat Campbell because she didn’t want to be his girlfriend anymore.

Fox posted bail after being charged with assault.
