INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — A young man was shot multiple times and left for dead in an apartment complex’s parking lot Sunday morning.

Speedway Police and Metro Police were called to the 5600 block of Whitcomb Ct. at around 1:30 a.m. and found 19-year-old Fairely Griffie laying in the parking lot. Authorities at the scene say the man had been shot multiple times.

Despite efforts to revive him by both police and medics, the man died at the scene.

“We do have detectives on scene as well as the crime lab canvassing the area, interviewing witnesses, doing everything they can to figure out what they can and who did it,” said Cpt. Harold Turner with IMPD.

Turner said emotions were running high at the scene as the victim’s family members talked to police.

While IMPD said the area is “relatively quiet,” Turner said they have been dispatched there in the past for reports of shots fired.

“However, regardless of the neighborhood you live in. Regardless of the statistical data of the neighborhood, you shouldn’t have to put up with this, no one should have to, it’s enough,” said Turner, “The neighborhood, the type of neighborhood, how quiet it is, how loud it is, no one deserves to get shot in a parking lot in front of a residence where you live or anywhere you live.”

Investigators spent the morning interviewing witnesses with the hopes that someone not only heard the gunshots but witnessed what transpired in the parking lot.
