INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 5, 2015) – IPS is investigating a fight that occurred at Northwest Community High School Tuesday. The video shows a male student beating up a female student in the hallway. A group of students gather around the fight to watch, and a teacher repeatedly yells stop.
IPS released this statement about the fight:
“Northwest Community High School protocol calls for staff members to diffuse the situation verbally, then signal for support from administration and school police. School and district administrators are arranging appropriate disciplinary action, and IPS Police officers are collaborating with the prosecutor’s office to determine any potential legal actions. Indianapolis Public Schools’ lead administrators are investigating today’s situation at Northwest to ensure our students are served in the best possible ways.”
The female student was treated at the school for minor injuries.
Students told CBS4 they’ve seen quite a few fights at Northwest and this fight caught on camera wasn’t the only one that happened Tuesday. Seventh-grader Sch’naya Scott said she was on her way to class when she was caught in the middle of what she described as a 15-person fight.
“A big fight. People (were) pushing me around. I’m trying to break up the fight, you know, help people so I can go where I need to go. I’m on the floor and I can’t move my feet. I’m mad and crying,” said Sch’naya.
Scott’s mom, Nikki Parmley, picked up her daughter from the nurse’s office and took her to the hospital. Scott had broken her leg.
“Now my innocent child has to walk about with a boot for the next 6-8 weeks and then go through physical therapy for something she had nothing to with,” said Nikki.
