COLUMBUS, Ohio. – One teen is dead and seven others have been injured at the Ohio State Fair tonight after a ride malfunctioned.
It happened after 7:30 p.m. tonight.
The “Fireball” ride malfunctioned as people were riding it, according to 10TV. One of the seats reportedly flew off as it was operating.
Gov. Kasich released a statement saying he has ordered a full investigation into the incident and ordered all fair rides be shut down until additional safety inspections can be completed.
The Ohio State Fair runs through August 6.
The victims range in age between 13 and 41 years old. The fire department confirmed to 10TV that an 18-year-old was killed.
Wexner Medical Center released the following statement early Thursday morning about the incident:
We have received 3 patients at our hospital from the ride malfunction incident at the Ohio State Fair. One of the patients is in serious condition and two are in critical condition at this time. Medical teams are still assessing and treating their injuries. We will provide further updates as information becomes available.
There has been a report of a ride incident. We are investigating and will report information as available.
