INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Indianapolis police say a suspect was injured in an officer-involved shooting Friday.

The incident happened around noon near 30th Street and Georgetown Road in a Family Video store parking lot. No officers were injured, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD).

The suspect, 29-year-old Jarius Moore, was wanted in the shooting of a security guard on March 27 at a liquor store in the 3900 block of North High School Road. He was also wanted for battery with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon in connection with that incident.

Officers saw an opportunity to arrest him in the video store parking lot. Moore was parked in the lot and tried to leave in his car. After allegedly ramming an officer’s car, he tried to escape on foot. Police say he almost immediately went back to his car to grab a handgun from the center console, and that’s when officers fired.

Moore was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive. A female passenger in the car was taken in for questioning.

There was at least one marked police car there when they tried to take him into custody. IMPD Deputy Chief Chris Bailey said there’s no doubt in his mind that the suspect knew police officers were after him.

“We do like to make sure the folks were going after know it’s the police,” said Bailey. “So, hopefully like it happens 9.99 times out of ten, people surrender or we take them into custody without something like this happening which is what we want to occur. We don’t want this to happen.”

The officer who fired his weapon was placed on administrative leave, as is standard in these cases.

Any witnesses to the incident are asked to call 317-327-3475.
