Indianapolis, Ind. (September 7, 2015) -- The Royal Coin Laundry Mat is boarded up and closed after a police chase of a stolen car slammed into a business just south of downtown.

Before crashing into the building, the driver collided with a truck driven by a man who is all too familiar with scenes like this.

“Like a boom. Like a firecracker going off,” Michael Wiegand describes the scene in the 500 block of East Lincoln Sunday evening.

“I’ve never seen anything  like that before, ” said Wiegand.

IMPD officers were pursuing a stolen Buick that ended up here crashed into the Royal Coin Mat on the corner.

Kevin King was in the truck on his way home from work as a lifeline paramedic.

“It’s was a little cliché. A little bit surreal.”

King says because gas was a good price, he drove his pickup truck to work Sunday morning instead of his motorcycle.

Police say 3 people were in the car at the time of the crash.

The driver took off running.

Two passengers were caught inside the car, but later released for joy riding.

“ I was angry. I was just ticked off that these individuals would take that risk over a vehicle. They could have killed somebody, ” said King.

Surprisingly with people inside the laundry mat, no one was seriously hurt.

That’s what owner Tom Ellis is thankful for.

“We’ll deal with it. It’s nothing. As long as nobody got hurt, who cares.”

Ellis is not letting what happened to his business get him down.

“If this is the biggest problem I have to worry about, I’ve got it made.”

Ellis says the building is okay, but it will be about 2 weeks before the laundry mat can re-open.

He hopes its sooner- Ellis gives away 1000 pounds of dog and cat food for free each week to anyone who needs it in the neighborhood.

Police say they have identified the driver and are confident he will be in custody very soon.
