Shooting on Indy’s near north side leaves 1 in critical condition

INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis Metropolitan Police are investigating a shooting late Wednesday night that left a victim in critical condition on the city’s near north side.

A little after 11 p.m., East District officers received a radio run for possible shots fired. Responding officers then heard gun shots being fired in the vicinity of the 1800 block of E. Brookside Ave.

A 9-1-1 call followed, indicating that a person had been shot in the area of E. 16th St. and Broadway St. There, officers found a 20-year-old male with at least one gunshot wound. The victim was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.

It appears these two incidents are related, according to investigators. The driver of a car had been shot on Brookside, then managed to drive to 16th and Broadway, and called 9-1-1. Police say the victim isn’t providing much information, but they do believe he was shot while in the vehicle.
