(May 5, 2015)– The mayors of Columbus and Martinsville were both defeated Tuesday night by GOP challengers.

Columbus mayor Kristen Brown was unseated by challenger Jim Lienhoop, who won 64 percent of the vote to just 35 for Brown.

Martinsville mayor Phil Deckard also lost, to challenger Shannon Kohl, who won 53 percent of the vote to Deckard’s 47 percent.

Deckard faced controversy in recent weeks over the city’s finances, and questions over whether the city would be able to make payroll for city employees.
