ANDERSON, Ind. – Police are investigating the shooting death of a 17-year-old boy in Anderson.

The incident happened in the 1600 block of West 7th Street around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers say they found the victim, Reynaldo Pizana, unresponsive when they arrived to scene. He was then taken to an Anderson hospital, where he died from his injuries.

Police say their initial investigation shows Reynaldo’s 16-year-old brother accidentally shot him.

“It could’ve been one of my own kids,” said Christy Sylvester, who lives two houses down from the crime scene. “I have a 16-year-old in the house.”

Her son, Hunter Harrison, was out on their front steps at the time of the incident.

“I just heard a gunshot,” Harrison. “Their sister came outside yelling  my brother just got shot.  I ran inside and told my mom.”

The Madison County coroner says Reynaldo suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. His official manner of death is still under investigation. An autopsy is set for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Reynaldo attended Anderson High School until he withdrew to be homeschooled in October of this year. The superintendent of Anderson Community Schools, Terry Thompson, released the following statement regarding the fatal shooting:

It is with a heavy heart and great sympathy that I report that former Anderson High School student, Reynaldo Pizana, was pronounced dead at the scene of an accidental shooting at 7th and Arrow in Anderson late this afternoon.
