HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. – A mother and her adult son died in an early Monday morning crash in Hancock County.
Authorities said the crash happened near CR 200S and CR 200W just west of Greenfield. Deputies believe weather was a factor. Fifty-four-year-old Amy Cox and her 24-year-old son Isaac Cox were killed.
Capt. Robert Harris with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department said dispatchers received a call about a serious crash around 6:15 a.m. The 911 caller said two people involved in the crash weren’t responding.
Harris said a Ford F-350 pickup truck was heading southbound and a Chevy HHR was heading northbound; the HHR lost control and spun in front of the pickup.
The driver of the pickup, 21-year-old Dawson Andrews, didn’t have time to stop and collided with the other vehicle, police said. He is cooperating with the investigation and was taken to an area hospital as a precaution.
Police said it didn’t appear that speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
