INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– Police made an arrest Wednesday in the shooting death of an 18-year-old man.
Ron-Ricco Duncan faces preliminary charges for murder and attempted armed robbery.
The shooting happened in the 3200 block of N. Ruckle St. shortly after 9:30 a.m. on April 1. Officers were initially called to the scene on the near north side to check the welfare of a person. When police arrived, they found a man dead inside an abandoned apartment building.
The victim was later identified as 18-year-old Gerald Beamon. The coroner ruled his cause of death as multiple gunshot wounds and the case was ruled a homicide.
According to court documents, police were told Beamon had last been seen with someone named Rico.
On March 30, Duncan came to see Beamon and the two walked off together, according to a witness. Court documents show Beamon had an unloaded gun with him, and intended to sell it to someone. Within 30 minutes of them walking off, the witness reported hearing what sounded like gunshots.
Beamon didn’t answer his phone, but a text from his phone was sent which seemed to indicate he was OK. He was later found dead.
Court documents show police found Instagram conversations tying Duncan to the murder where he allegedly says, “It’s handled.” Another message says, “I keep thinking about it…he was cryin’.”
When police interviewed Duncan, court documents show he changed his story a few times. Police determined that Duncan was killed during an attempted robbery that Duncan allegedly help set up.
On Sept. 11, police took Duncan into custody. The Marion County Prosecutor’s office will determine what formal charges to file.
An initial court date for Duncan wasn’t immediately available.
