ANDERSON, Ind. – Police in Anderson confirm they are investigating the death of a 1-year-old boy. They are calling the boy’s death “suspicious.”

Jackie Haines shared these photos of his son Harlan with CBS4. Haines said his son was a happy baby, a good boy, and had a huge personality. Baby Harlan knew no stranger.

“He was so nice. Everybody said he would always wave and talk to everybody,” Haines said.

Early Friday morning, Haines received a call no father should ever receive. The boy was rushed to Riley Hospital. Haines was contacted by DCS and told he needed to go to the hospital immediately. When he arrived, Harlan was brain dead.

“I just wanted him to wake up,” Haines said.

On Sunday morning, the boy died.

Anderson police are investigating the death as “suspicious.” An autopsy will be performed in Marion County to determine the baby’s exact cause of death. Harlan’s family believes he was abused.

“Something had to have happened. This was no accident,” Haines said. “I just don’t understand how anyone can hurt a little baby. He didn’t do anything wrong. He was just a baby.”

DCS previously investigated a case involving the baby, but Haines said he was never updated on the progress. Now, he wants answers and to find out who’s responsible.

“I just want justice for my son,” Haines said.

No arrests have been made at this time.
