INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a shooting that left one person dead Friday afternoon.
Officers with the IMPD responded to the area of East 36th Street and North Hawthorne Lane around 4 p.m. on a person shot. When they arrived, they found a man with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound.

Police say the man was lying on East 36th Street just east of Hawthorne Lane. By the time police got there, the man was already dead.
The IMPD said homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin their investigation. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to assist in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Wykhem Asha Hoosier, 23.
