HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. – Authorities in Hancock County are investigating a fatal Wednesday night crash.

At around 9:45 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the area of SR 67 and CR 900 N. between McCordsville and Fortville on the report of a two-vehicle accident.

The Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and Greenfield police said the crash involved a minivan and a passenger car. The minivan was going east when the car, heading west on State Road 67, crossed the center line, resulting in a head-on crash.

Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles until personnel from the Buck Creek, McCordsville and Fortville fire departments and Seals Ambulance Service could extricate them. The drivers of both vehicles were wearing seatbelts.

Police said the driver of the minivan was a 39-year-old woman from Fishers. She was taken to St. Vincent Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the passenger car was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said he was a 70-year-old man from Bloomington. An autopsy is pending.

The drivers’ names have not been released pending notification of family members. Investigators said it didn’t appear that alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
