INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.– The Pence family said goodbye to their pet beagle Maverick Tuesday night.

The governor was campaigning for Donald Trump in Nevada, Utah and Colorado Wednesday, and tweeted the news.

“Heavy hearts today. Our beagle of 13 years passed away quietly last night,” he said. “Rest In Peace, Maverick. We will miss you.”

The photo he tweeted shows Gov. Pence and First Lady Karen Pence hugging Maverick on the front step of the governor’s residence.

According to our newsgathering partners at the Indianapolis Star, Maverick was adopted when he was 2 years old. The Pences also have two cats named Oreo and Pickle, a bunny named Marlon Bundo and a snake named Sapphira.
