INDIANAPOLIS (May 12, 2015) – Police are investigating after a man was hit and killed by a school bus on the south side Tuesaday morning.

Witnesses told police the man was walking across Thompson Road around 8:15 a.m. when a school bus driver was turning onto Madison Avenue. Witnesses say the Perry Township bus driver had a green arrow at the time.

Police say a 6-year-old girl was on the bus – she and the bus driver were not hurt. Police say she was the only student on the bus, and was taken to a school to talk with counselors.

Police say they do not believe there were any impairment issues with the driver.

“We feel pretty confident that this was just an unfortunate accident,” said IMPD Sgt. Kendale Adams.

The victim’s name has not been released.
