Bicyclist in critical condition after being struck on city’s near south side

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Police say a 50-year-old man was transported to the hospital after being struck by an SUV early Wednesday morning.

Officers were dispatched to Shelby Street and Bradbury Avenue just after 12:30 a.m. on reports of a person struck.

Police say the SUV was traveling north on Shelby Street and the bicyclist was traveling west on Bradbury Avenue.

The bike was supposed to stop, but instead entered the intersection and was struck by the SUV.

The driver stayed on scene and called for help immediately.

Police say the driver was transported to Eskanazi in critical condition.
