INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 30, 2016) – One person died and another was seriously hurt after a crash on the south side of Indianapolis Wednesday morning.

The crash happened on Madison Avenue around 7:15 a.m. and involved two vehicles. A male victim died, police said. Police identified him as 77-year-old Melvin Voss of Indianapolis.

As a result, Madison Avenue was blocked southbound at Stop 11 Road and northbound at Winchester Drive.

Authorities on the scene said the crash involved two SUVs that collided head on; a green SUV was going northbound and a blue SUV was going southbound. Police believe the green SUV crossed the center line, leading to the collision.

The driver of the SUV, described by police as a “younger female,” was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital in serious condition.

Police said it didn’t appear that intoxication played a role in the crash.
