MARION, Ind. — Police in Marion are investigating an attempted murder-suicide Sunday morning.

Officers were called to the 4000 block of Wildoner Drive on a report of a possible shooting just after 4 a.m.

Police say 36-year-old Jacob Engberts suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head and died from his injuries.

A 24-year-old woman was also shot in the head and remains in “stable” condition in an Indianapolis hospital. The woman’s young sons were present in the home when the shooting occurred, but were not injured. Police say she and Engberts lived together.

A semiautomatic rifle was recovered from the scene. Investigators are still looking into the events that led to the shooting.
