INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (March 8, 2015) — Fire crews say a house fire Sunday morning was possibly started by a child playing with a lighter.

Indianapolis Fire Department crews were called to the 5400 block of Pecos Court around 9:45 Sunday morning for a house fire.

Crews reported heavy smoke coming from the home on the far south east side when they arrived.

Officials say the mother of the child said she believed her child had been playing with a lighter and that’s what started the fire.

One firefighter was hit on head and went to a clinic to be checked out but no one else was injured in the fire.

The family’s pet ran out of the home and has not been found.
