Officials confirm tornado near Richmond Saturday

RICHMOND, Ind. — The National Weather Service in Wilmington, Ohio has confirmed that a tornado touched down near Richmond in Wayne County Saturday.

Officials conducted a damage assessment Sunday after the unexpectedly powerful storm.

A tornado warning was issued Saturday evening before the storm passed through, but was canceled a short time later as the weather system weakened.

The storm still proved powerful in some areas, downing trees and tearing a roof from a barn near Richmond.

The weather service and the Wayne County Emergency Management Agency launched the assessment Saturday night.
