SOUTH BEND, Ind — Two new dorms on Notre Dame’s campus now have names, thanks to the generosity of two $20 million dollar donations for naming rights for each dorm.

Jimmy and Susan Dunne of New York City and Jay and Mary Flaherty of Los Angeles made the gifts according to Notre Dame officials.

Both Dunne Hall for men and Flaherty Hall for women will open in August for the 2016 fall semester.

Each building is approximately 71,000 square feet, with rooms for 226 women in Flaherty Hall and 221 men in Dunne Hall.

Jimmy Dunne is a 1978 Notre Dame graduate and is senior managing principal of Sandler O’Neill + Partners, an investment banking firm. He’s also a member of the university’s board of trustees.

Flaherty Hall was named to recognize Mary Hesburgh Flaherty, a 1979 Notre Dame graduate. She is a member of the university’s undergraduate experience advisory council and is a niece of the late Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, who was Notre Dame’s president for 35 years
