SABINE COUNTY, Texas – A couple from East Texas suffered only minor injuries after lightning struck them during a weekend storm.

Tim and Kayla Powell were unloading groceries from their SUV Saturday when a bolt of lightning hit the vehicle.

“I remember a little bit of heat, but after the white light, that’s it,” Tim Powell told KFDA. “I definitely feel blessed, someone was watching for us on that day.”

Surveillance cameras from the family’s home captured the strike as well as the reaction of their young son. After the burst of lightning, Tim Powell collapses on the floor. Kayla Powell climbs out of the SUV holding her back as she guides their son inside.

Kayla Powell pulled her husband into the house to keep him safe. The couple suffered some burns and bruises. They were discharged from the hospital later that night.
