(August 19, 2015) – Inmates at a prison in Costa Rica are getting very creative when it comes to sneaking drugs into the facility.

Prison authorities found a pigeon with a fanny pack strapped to it. The fanny pack contained 14 grams of marijuana and 14 grams of cocaine.

Authorities think the pigeon was trained by inmates to bring them illegal drugs.

When authorities found the bird it was covered in feces and “very nervous.”

It is currently under examination in a nearby animal shelter.

In 40 days it will be moved to a larger enclosure with other birds of the same species.

Animal shelter staff says the bird cannot be released into the wild because it’s used to getting food from a person in exchange for favors.
