MUNCIE, Ind. (April 7, 2015)- A Muncie woman is charged in connection with her mom’s death. Amanda Pratt, 31, has been charged with reckless homicide. On February 7, Muncie Police were called to a home South Mulberry Street.  Officers found Penny Kerr, 54, dead.  Kerr’s daughter was also at the home.

“She did admit to injecting her mom with a controlled substance,” said Muncie police Sgt. Seth Stanley.

Three days after Kerr died, a SWAT team and narcotics unit busted a house a few blocks away on South Elm Street.  Authorities say this was the result of a “lengthy investigation.” Officers told CBS4 this house has been on their radar, and this isn’t the first time they’ve been there.

“We have served numerous search warrants there over the past several years. Yes, I would call it a drug house and a nuisance to the neighborhood and the community,” said Sgt. Stanley.

On February 10, officers found meth, things used to make meth, pills and Pratt.  Pratt and others were arrested.

“She just happened to be at that house. The common denominator is drugs,” said Sgt. Stanley.

The Delaware County Coroner listed Kerr’s death as accidental and discovered she died from “acute methamphetamine intoxication.”

Charging documents obtained from the Delaware County prosecutor’s office state Pratt “did recklessly kill another human being.”

“I don’t think it was intentional, based on what Amanda had told us and some of the witness accounts. It sounds like this was a pretty common thing,” says Sgt. Stanley.

No one answered the door when our crews went to the house where Amanda and her mom lived to try to talk to Pratt. She will be in court on May 20.
