MUNCIE, Ind. — Police in Muncie are investigating after two people were found shot to death in a southside home early Wednesday morning.

According to the Muncie Police Department, Delaware County 911 Dispatch received a report of a shooting at a home in the 2900 block of South Liberty Street just before 5 a.m. Muncie officers responding to the scene found a man and a woman dead from apparent gunshot wounds.

Police tell CBS4 that based on the initial investigation, they believe the two victims, now identified as 69-year-old Malcolm Perdue and 51-year-old Kyndra Swift, were killed during a home invasion Wednesday morning.

Rebekah Richardson, who lives nearby, said she doesn’t know the victims, but she’s heartbroken for their loved ones.

“I might not know all of my neighbors, but I know a lot of them and many of them have lived here for decades. It’s not like super close-knit, but it’s enough that you see them driving every day, you see them coming home, you know, you kind of put a face with the name,” said Richardson. “Unfortunately this is probably one of those, I never knew their name, so this is a sad way to find out.”

Richardson and several other neighbors said hearing about something like this in the neighborhood is uncharacteristic and unnerving.

“It’s not normal at all for this neighborhood. I’ve lived here my whole life and this is not something that you hear about,” said Richardson. “It’s just scary to think that my kids are in this neighborhood and something could have happened.”

The Muncie Police Department was busy throughout the day working to learn more about the circumstances surrounding the the double deadly shooting.

“It’s definitely going to be trying, especially as information comes out and details,” said Richardson. “Was it someone that knew them, or was it just random? I think that’s the scary part is, not knowing what was really happening.”

According to police, throughout the day Wednesday, several search warrants related to the case were executed in various locations.

Early Wednesday evening, police kept the area near a home in the 2100 block of South Pershing Drive blocked off by crime scene tape and officers’ cruisers. A spokesperson for the MPD confirmed to CBS4 News that the scene on S. Pershing Dr. is connected to the homicide investigation, however, specifics have not yet been released.

“I would never wish that to happen to anyone – anyone’s family. It’s terrible,” said Richardson.

Police said the investigation into the killings of Perdue and Swift remained active and ongoing as of Wednesday night, while also confirming that an arrest has been made in the case. Police arrested Daniel Lamar Jones and Devin Xavier Myers, both 27, in connection with this incident.

The relationship of the two victims has not yet been released by investigators.

Police are still asking anyone with information on the case to call the Muncie Police Department Detective Division at 765-747-4867 or dispatch at 765-747-4838.
