INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (April 1, 2016) – A mother has accepted a plea deal in connection with the death of her daughter and injuries found on her other children.
Court documents say Maria Calderon has pleaded guilty to neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
According to the terms of the plea agreement, Calderon will be sentenced to 40 years, with 20 years to be served in the Indiana Department of Correction and five to be served in Community Corrections. She also agreed to cooperate in prosecution of her then-boyfriend Freddie Bailey who is charged with the murder of Calderon’s daughter and battery on her two other children.
Her sentencing hearing is expected to be set after Bailey’s case concludes. Bailey currently has a jury trial scheduled for January 23, 2017. Prosecutors will pursue a life sentence without parole.
