INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Sept. 30, 2015) – Days after burying her son, Shannon Swanson, is making a plea to find his killer. 10-year-old DeShaun Swanson was killed during a drive by shooting nearly two weeks ago. Police have not made any arrests in the case.

“They changed our family forever, what they did was unfair,” said Swanson. “They took someone very special to our family, and they need to turn themselves in and they need to pay for what they’ve done to my family.”

This grieving mother is praying for justice as her family mourns the boy’s tragic death. The baby of the family, he was affectionately nicknamed ‘little man.’

DeShaun was with his mother on Saturday, September 19 when they visited a family friend in the 3900 block of Graceland. Earlier that day he watched his brother play football.

Swanson says they were at the friend’s house to give their condolences for the loss of a relative when shots rang out. Three others were injured.

“There are consequences and when you pull the trigger you can’t take it back no more cause we can’t get him back, we can’t he’s not coming back.”

Police say they have received a few tips in the case but nothing has led them to the killer. Investigators say the family may have been caught in the crossfire of an ongoing battle for control of the drug trade in the area. Police recently dismantled several violent gangs known for dealing drugs and believe rivals are moving in to battle for that territory.

The north side neighborhood where the boy was killed has seen several shootings over the summer. Detectives are also looking at those incidents to see if any could be connected with this case.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS.
