SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (Feb. 10, 2015)– The body of a man who went missing while on the Flat Rock River in January was recovered Tuesday around 12:45 p.m.

The man, identified as James Hellums of Shelby County, was reported missing on January 4.

Emergency crews and Department of Natural Resources officers began a search near the Geneva bridge after a caller told authorities they saw a man sent over the dam just north of the bridge. He was swept downstream and did not resurface.

The Shelby County Sheriff’s Department was told that four rabbit hunters in a wooded area near the Flatrock River saw someone matching the description of the missing man. The man had told the hunters he had gone into the river looking for his dog.
