Man’s arrest in unrelated case leads to charges in Lafayette double homicide

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Aug. 6, 2015) – Police arrested a 19-year-old Delphi man in connection with a double homicide in Lafayette this week.

Lafayette police arrested Jacob Guffey on several charges, including two counts of murder, a count of robbery and a count of conspiracy to commit robbery.

Police said Guffey was also picked up on a preliminary charge of auto theft and operating a vehicle while intoxicated on Tuesday night. He became a person of interest in the homicide case while being held on the other charges.

Early Tuesday morning, police responded to the 2200 block of Perrine Street, where they found two people shot in the front yard. Police identified the victims as Aaron Hunter Jr., 36, and Terry Smith, 46.

The case has been forwarded to the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office.
