MADISON COUNTY, Ind. — A family dispute in Madison County led to a shooting that left a 25-year-old in critical condition, police say.

The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. southwest of Markleville at a home on County Road 1000 S.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, 25-year-old Hunter Holloway had been involved in an altercation with his family earlier that day and had another one in the evening.

Police said he threatened family members with a shotgun for several hours. At one point, after family members tried to calm him down, Holloway’s father ran to retrieve a handgun. That led to a confrontation between the two men; Holloway pointed the shotgun at his father, who fired a single round that struck Holloway near the abdomen.

Sheriff’s deputies and officers from surrounding agencies rendered first aid until Adams Township EMS arrived. Holloway was then airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital. He’s in critical condition but is expected to survive, police said.
