INDIANAPOLIS — Metro police are investigating after a man was shot and killed early Friday on the city’s near east side. It happened in the 3000 block of E. Michigan St. shortly after 1 a.m.

As investigating officers arrived, they located an adult male victim who had been shot at least one time. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Marion County Coroner’s Office identified him as 49-year-old Alfredo Noriega Banda.

IMPD investigators say the suspect is a female who also struck her brother-in-law with a pistol, causing a laceration, before fleeing the scene. The brother-in-law was treated at the scene by medics and is cooperating with detectives.

“Preliminary information investigators are finding out if there was something went on just before that,” said Genae Cook, Public Affairs for IMPD. “That’s what they’re still trying to determine.”

“Prior to [officers] arrival, a heavyset black female had fled the residence,” Cook said. “We believe she had some type of involvement in this incident. We believe she is possibly armed.”

IMPD says they do not believe the community is in any danger.

The house where the shooting took place is occupied by people who rent room there, according to police.
