INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A man has pleaded guilty to a felony charge for fleeing the scene of a crash that killed a 13-year-old in March of 2011.

Christopher Stimac pleaded guilty to failure to stop after an accident resulting in death (Class C Felony).

13-year-old Hadleigh Cave died in the crash in the 5100 block of South Franklin Road when Stimac struck Cave with his vehicle while she was walking with her friends.

In June 2015, the IMPD Hit and Run Unit was contacted by Stimac’s estranged wife.  The information she provided allowed detectives to gather the evidence necessary to arrest and charge Stimac for leaving the scene of the fatal crash.

According to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office, Stimac’s wife said he’d been working in Cincinnati on the day of the crash and drove back that night following an after-work party. She said he came home in a panic and thought he’d hit something. He’d been drinking that night, he told her.

The next day, he told her he’d been involved in a crash in Cincinnati that totaled his car. He filed an insurance claim, leading to the insurance fraud charge, prosecutors said.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 20 at 1:00 p.m.
