MUNCIE, Ind. – The Delaware County coroner has identified the man who was fatally shot by Muncie police on Saturday.

An autopsy performed by the coroner shows Larry Stepp, 31, died after receiving five gunshot wounds. The coroner says Stepp had stab wounds, but those were not life threatening.

The police-action shooting occurred on Saturday around 4:19 p.m. Muncie police were called to the 1300 block of West 18th Street to investigate a possible domestic violence incident and stabbing.

When officers arrived they found Stepp standing on the edge of the street with a knife. State police say the officers were then forced to fire on the suspect after an initial confrontation with him.

Stepp was transported to IU Health’s Ball Hospital where he later died.

A 15-year-old female stabbing victim was located inside the home. She was also transported to IU Health’s Ball Hospital and was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
