JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (September 6, 2015) – A Johnson County man was arrested on OWI charges after crashing into a house early Sunday morning.

A Johnson County sheriff’s deputy was sitting at the red light on State Road 135, waiting to turn West on to Smith Valley Road when he observed a red passenger car speeding.

The sheriff’s deputy activated his emergency lights, made a U turn and proceeded South on State Road 135 to catch up with the red car.

The driver in the red car was speeding west on Stella Driver at a very high rate of speed when it made an abrupt left turn and crashed into a house in the 1100 block of Blake Circle.

The sheriff’s deputy stopped his car and observed a white male exit the red car and stumble across the yard.

The sheriff’s deputy placed the male in handcuffs and advised he was not under arrest but was being detained until I could determine what was going on.

The sheriff’s deputy could smell a strong odor of alcohol coming from his breath.

The male identified himself as Anthony Barkhaus, 29.

He told the sheriff’s deputy he had a few beers at a birthday party prior to the crash.

Barkhaus registered a 0.204 BAC after taking a certified breath test.

He was placed under arrest and charged with operating while intoxicated.
