Man convicted of trying to rob Muncie grandmother sentenced

MUNCIE, Ind. – A man who was beaten by a grandmother in Muncie after trying to rob her has been sentenced.

Mark West Jr., 29, was arrested in July 2015 after he attempted to rob Ann Nichols, 61. Nichols was in her home when her security alarm went off. She grabbed her gun and found West in her garage.

She held West at gunpoint until police arrived.

West pleaded guilty to one count of burglary in June 2016. He was sentenced to five years at the DOC: two years executed and served out on electronic home detention, and three years suspended and served under supervised probation.
