INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – A homicide investigation is underway after the shooting death of an 18-year-old over the weekend.

Just after 2 a.m. on Saturday, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched to the 6600 block of Little Leaf Place in response to a shooting.

Police believe William Zweck, 49, shot Kodi Prunder, 18, in the head. Zweck is Pruner’s uncle, police said. Witnesses said Zweck was allegedly intoxicated and approached Pruner and his friends while they were out walking. He then pointed a gun at them.

The gun went off as Pruner tried to pry it away from his uncle, police said; Pruner was shot and went to Eskenazi Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.

Zweck was initially arrested on preliminary charges of criminal recklessness with a firearm causing bodily injury, pointing a loaded firearm at another person and possession of a firearm without a license.

Homicide detectives have now taken over the investigation and reckless homicide charges have been filed in connection with Pruner’s death. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will make the final charging decision.
