HENDERSON, KY – A Kentucky man was arrested after police say he plowed through a Memorial Day display, damaging dozens of military memorial crosses.
According to WFIE, each year in Central Park a committee sets up 5,000 crosses for a Memorial Day ceremony. Each cross has a name of a military member who passed away.
Police say on Friday, Anthony Burrus, 27, drove through the display and damaged 160 crosses and completely destroyed 20 others. After receiving tips from the public, police say they found Burrus’ car abandoned in a McDonald’s parking lot with pieces of a cross and stake embedded in the tires.
Burrus was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and leaving the scene of an accident.
The committee spent the weekend repairing the crosses before the Memorial Day ceremony at the park today at 10 a.m.
