INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (May 12, 2015) – The Indy Parks Department is currently looking for lifeguards to fill positions at area pools.

Lifeguards are paid $10 per hour and must meet certain prerequisites. Anyone applying for the position must demonstrate his or her ability to do a 200 yard freestyle swim, retrieve a 10 lb. brick from deep water and tread with hands out of the water for one minute. There is financial aid available to those who qualify to cover the cost of lifeguard training.

Last year, the lifeguard positions paid $8 an hour. The wage was increased in order to offer more competitive pay and attract more applicants.

The seasonal positions run from mid-May to August 7. To apply, visit  www.indy.gov/jobs or call 327-PARK.

Eight outdoor Indianapolis pools will open on May 23. Indy Parks Spraygrounds will be turned on Saturday, May 16.
