LAWRENCE, Ind. (April 11, 2015)— The city of Lawrence has declared the month of April as ‘love your parks’ month and that’s exactly what a number of local volunteers spent their Saturday afternoon doing.

Members of the Lawrence parks department, area churches and just those who wanted to help, were on hand a Oaklandon Play Park to install a new play set, paint and to clean up the park.

Volunteers say they wanted to be part of the clean up because they remember the good times they had at the park when they were kids.

“A park is something that when you are young, we all enjoy,” said volunteer John Leavell. “So with us coming together and cleaning the bathroom it’s not the amount of the work, it’s the quality of the work in which you are.”

The new playground is needed because the structure that was there before did not meet current safety standards.

Once the updates are completed, they mayor is going to re-open the park on Earth Day.
