KOKOMO, Ind. – World War II Veteran Hubert Johnson, 90, fought on the front lines for our country and now finds himself trying to defend his own home. On Sunday, the veteran was attacked, beaten and robbed when his Kokomo home was broken into by a woman in her early 20s.

“She said, ‘I’m going to kill you’ and I said, ‘go ahead, shoot me,’” said Johnson.

Police say 23-year-old Buddie Smith forced her way into Johnson’s home looking for things to steal.

“She came up to the house on Sunday and he was sitting on the porch and she went right into the house. He told her not to come back again,” said Johnson’s daughter Kay Sanders.

The veteran says Smith has been at the home before looking for money, even spare change that Johnson was collecting. Once she was inside of the home on Sunday, she became very violent.

“She went right inside and he went in behind her and she shoved him down. My dad has a bb gun at his house and it looks like a real gun and she grabbed it and said that she was going to shoot him. He told her to go ahead and do it,” said Sanders.

Johnson did not sit back and take the abuse.

“I got back up and said get out of the house and she said no, I’m not going to get out of the house,” said Johnson.

Smith only got away with his cellphone, but her previous break-ins have cost him more than $500.

Buddie was arrested on burglary, robbery, intimidation and theft charges.

Johnson is not worried the 23-year-old criminal will come back, because he and his family will be prepared.

“It does not do any good to get mad about it, I just get even,” said Johnson.
