TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (Jan. 13, 2016) – It’s the end of the line for Terre Haute’s Kmart store.

The location at 4651 S. U.S. Highway 41 will close in mid-April. The store will remain open until then, according to Howard Riefs, director of corporate communications for Sears Holdings. The liquidation sale begins on Jan. 24.

The store employs 62 workers, Riefs said. Eligible associates will receive severance and have the chance to apply for open positions at other Sears or Kmart stores.

Customers with items in layaway can pay off their contracts early or transfer the layaway order to another store or online.

This is the only Indiana store set to close. The retailer announced that several locations across the country would shut down, including stores in Iowa, Ohio, Kansas, Florida and Georgia. Riefs said the retailer is making the move to reduce expenses and change its business model.

In 2014, Kmart closed a pair of Indianapolis-area stores.
