INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Today is a big day for nonprofits across the globe. Each year, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving is known as Giving Tuesday, and it’s considered the kickoff of the end of the year charitable giving season.

The initiative encourages people to give to a good cause following Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Several local groups hope to benefit from the Giving Tuesday movement.

Riley Children’s Foundation is eliciting the help of local celebrities to help increase its donation total this year. Clear Channel agreed to donate $10,000 to the foundation if it reaches more than 300 donors.

Giving Tuesday isn’t just about making financial contributions to charities; people are also encouraged to give their time.

The Indiana Blood Center says its blood supply is dangerously low following the holiday weekend. That’s why the organization is teaming up with Riley Hospital for Children to host a Giving Tuesday blood drive at the Fifth Third Bank Tower in downtown Indianapolis. You can schedule a donation appointment here.
