INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Feb. 5, 2016) – The man accused in a 2014 quadruple murder has accepted a plea deal and will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Kenneth “Cody” Rackemann pleaded guilty to murder in the deaths of Walter Burnell, Jacob Rodemich, Kristy Sanchez, and Hayley Navarra.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Rackemann will receive four consecutive life sentences without parole and an additional 20 years for robbery.

The shooting happened on Feb. 20, 2014, in the 3400 block of South Parker Avenue.

According to court documents, Rackemann and three others conspired to rob Burnell of drugs and money and killed the others in the course of that robbery. Rackemann is accused of fatally shooting Burnell, Rodemich and Sanchez. He also wounded Navarra, prosecutors said, and ordered an accomplice, Valencia Williams, to kill her.

Rackemann’s plea deal in the quadruple killing means he will never be a free man again.

“He will never leave prison which is appropriate given the horrendous nature of this crime,” said Marion county prosecutor Terry Curry.

In December, it appeared Rackemann would agree to plead guilty in the case, but he backed out at the last minute and didn’t take the deal. Prosecutors had planned to seek the death penalty in the case if it went to trial.

Rackemann’s guilty plea avoids the death penalty and a lengthy criminal fight.

“The fundamental consideration for our office and the family and everyone involved is the certainty of the result and not having to go through the years and years and years it would take to complete a death penalty case,” said Curry.

Two other suspects Anthony LaRussa and Valencia Williams still face murder charges in the case.

The fourth suspect Samantha Bradley pleaded guilty to lesser charges in 2014 in exchange for her testimony against the other suspects.

Prosecutors say Rackemann’s plea agreement had the support of most of the families of his four victims.

“The majority of the families were hoping for this resolution from first day we met with them, which was a life without parole sentence,” said Curry.

Rackemann is set to be formally sentenced in April.

The murder trials for the two remaining suspects are still set to go forward later this year.
