JACKSON COUNTY, Ind. – Two people were injured in a watercraft accident in Jackson County Friday night.

Conservation officers say Joshua Smith, 24, of Greenwood, and Bridget Smith, 23, of Clayton, were traveling at a high rate of speed on a private lake at the Land and Forest Club, when their Honda watercraft struck a dock around 8:30 p.m.

Both were ejected from the watercraft and Joshua was knocked unconscious.

Neighbors who heard or witnessed the collision, including a medical doctor, rushed to the scene and administered aid to Joshua, who was found floating face-down and unresponsive in the water.

Joshua was severely injured and Bridget suffered non-life threatening injuries. Both were airlifted to local hospitals.

Alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor. The incident remains under investigation by Indiana Conservation Officers.
