RANDOLPH COUNTY, Ind. – A former Indiana University football player was arrested on Thursday on two counts of child molestation.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office received word on Wednesday that Kiante Christopher Enis, 19, of Saratoga, may have engaged in sexual misconduct with “a child 13 years or younger.”

Investigators say Enis admitted to being in a consensual but illegal relationship with a teenage girl.

Enis enjoyed years of success on the gridiron in the small town of Winchester.  That athletic success led Enis to sign on to play with the Indiana Hoosiers football team.

Those games have now been put on hold after sheriff’s deputies got a report this week that Enis had been involved in sexual relationship with a girl who is said to be 13-years-old or younger.

During interviews with investigators, both Enis and the girl confessed that they had sex on at least two occasions.

“The detectives talked to both parties today and  both stated they had been in a sexual relationship.  The male was arrested and incarcerated,” said Randolph county sheriff’s department chief deputy Doug Fritz.

Sheriff’s deputies say the sexual relationship violated state law concerning the age of consent.

“If it’s under the age of 14,  13 years or younger, it’s child molest, even if it’s consensual,” said Fritz.

The chief deputy says the case remains an active investigation.  In the meantime, Enis is being held in jail on a 20 thousand dollar bond.

Enis is listed on the Indiana University football team roster as of Thursday morning; however, IU officials released a statement late afternoon, stating Enis was released.

“Indiana Football has dismissed freshman Kiante Enis from the program effective immediately,” the statement read.

Enis did not play in either of the team’s first two games.
