INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (July 22, 2015) – You’ve heard of Christmas in July, and now Black Friday in July is picking up steam. Some retailers are hoping it makes your summer a little sunnier while cashing in on the new trend.
Best Buy is the latest company to join the Black Friday in July craze. The retailers will host a two-day Black Friday event starting Friday morning. Best Buy is even taking it a step further by doing a Cyber Monday sale July 27th.
“Retailers are always looking for new and creative ways to promote themselves and to drive traffic to their stores, but to see something called Black Friday in July is certainly new for us this year,” said Grant Monahan, president of the Indiana Retailers Association. “It’s just the next stage in retailers efforts to increase sales.”
Best Buy Black Friday comes one week after Amazon Prime Day, which the company called Black Friday. Wal-Mart and Target held sales of their own.
Last year before the holiday season, retailers held Black Friday-type sales earlier than ever.
Does this mean Black Friday will lose appeal?
“I think that’s a possibility over time as retailers begin to expand that holiday shopping season and start it sooner,” said Monahan. “I think it’s going to maybe take some of the luster off of Black Friday, but still I think people look for that tradition of that start to the Christmas shopping season and it still means a lot to many customers and to retailers as well.”
“The retail marketplace is even more competitive and as online sales continue to grow, you’re going to see retailers both online and brick-and-mortar be more aggressive in the marketplace to attract customers.”
